The Future Of Technology Doesn’t Involve Mobile Apps
FEATURED

Until now, even the best AI tools have been reactive. You open the app, you stare at the blinking cursor, and it waits for you to make the first move. It’s that pause before typing where most people usually drop off because, let’s face it, interacting with a chatbot often feels like you’re expected to know exactly what to ask, how to phrase it, and what’s even possible.
This mental barrier has been a major reason chatbots have never truly gained mainstream traction.
When you open something like TikTok or Instagram, however, there’s no pressure to create or decide what to do next. You don’t have to immediately worry about coming up with something to say. You just scroll through, and content appears on its own, ready for your attention. The system actually initiates the interaction, and you engage with it in whatever way feels natural. (Whether that’s liking, commenting, arguing, or scrolling on.
It’s proactive by design.
That’s exactly the direction OpenAI is now pushing toward. Last week they released Pulse and just recently they announced Apps inside ChatGPT and the Apps SDK. It’s the first time a chatbot is trying to work with the users, rather than against their natural tendencies
Pulse is the part that makes ChatGPT feel alive, a feed of small, timely cards that anticipate what might matter to you without waiting for a prompt. But that’s just half the story. With Apps and the new SDK, those cards could wind up actually doing something. Instead of you bouncing between a dozen different apps, ChatGPT could now pull the right one into the conversation at the right moment. Spotify when you want music, Expedia when you’re planning a trip, Zillow when you’re looking for a place to live.
